Grief & Loss

Grief is the natural and normal emotional suffering that occurs in response to loss. Grief and loss are unavoidable in life and there is no right or wrong way to experience these. Naturally, the greater the loss, the more intense the sense of grief. Even small losses or change can trigger grief responses.

However, sometimes the pain of our loss can feel overwhelming and fails to resolve despite the passing of time. Grief can also feel confusing; manifesting as shock, anger, guilt, and even numbness. Our grief responses can begin to interfere with our physical and mental health and overall functioning (e.g., difficulties concentrating or working, inability to experience joy, sleep difficulties, eating disturbances, anxiety, depression, etc.).
