I am not sure if therapy is right for me.
The decision to commence therapy is a personal, important, and rewarding choice. If you have not partaken in therapy before, the process can seem intimidating. Whether loved ones have urged you to seek services or you are questioning your own need for therapy, we encourage you to call us for a consultation.
We can help to answer any questions and ease anxiety over therapy, as well as, help you determine if therapy would be appropriate for your situation.
What can I expect for my first session?
At Brickell Psychology, we believe in the importance of understanding our clients and providing an individualized approach to therapy. We additionally greatly value the therapeutic relationship as a part of this process. As such, your first session will focus on exploring the circumstances that led you to seek therapy, learning about you and your experience, and collaboratively discussing tentative goals and areas of focus. Additionally, an important part of the process involves your getting a feel for us and clarifying any doubts or questions you may have.
We strongly encourage you to process your sense of comfort with us honestly and evaluate the goodness of fit for you and your needs.
What is therapy like?
Just as every client is unique, so is every psychotherapy session and process. Your therapy will be guided by your current goals and the plan you collaborate with your therapist to create. In general, therapy will involve an organic exploration of your circumstances, intrapersonal experiences, relationships, important historical events, and other personal factors with the goal of gaining self-understanding and insight to facilitate change and growth. Therapy will focus on both specific, short-term issues, as well as, long standing patterns that may influence various areas of your life, relationships, and overall well-being. The work in therapy will occur on many levels, involving learning new coping skills, enacting problem-solving, and also exploring underlying beliefs, emotions, and needs. We encourage you to call us for more information about the therapeutic process and how it can unfold for you.
